Preparation

In preparation for a walk, a search for maps and guide books greatly stimulates interest in the adventure.

Cumbria Way Coast to Coast Coast to Coast Path
Rucksack Readers Harvey XT 40 Henry Stedman

The Harvey map is at the top. Each day folds out for easy carrying in a plastic cover.
Lower left is the Cumbria Way. Again, easy to carry with a plastic cover.
Lower right, Stedman, has divided the Coast to Coast into 95 maps in much smaller scale with detail description of markings along the way.
We use the AARN Natural Exhilaration packs, http://www.aarnpacks.com. There is very little difference in what we will pack for the Lake Country than we packed for the Spanish Caminos. We won't need sleeping bag inserts nor towels. The temperatures are close to being the same. We start our walk on the 22nd of May where as we started the caminos on 14th of April. We had many days of rain on the Camino Plata and Norte:

Here is a suggested check off list:

The Reason Why

Over the past several years we have been influenced by our friends in the choices of European walking adventures.

First came John and Robin Pigott. They suggested Walking the Camino Frances, caminowalkabout.blogspot.com includes Finisterra and Muxia. Once finished, we knew we would have to come back to walk other caminos.

John and Robin are presently in France starting another whirlwind camino . Their blog is well worth a read: http://www.agoodwalkunspoiled.blogspot.com

The second good friend, Karen Nicholls, suggested, as a change of pace, we walk the Cumbria Way in the Lake Country of England. We decided to add to her suggestion the Coast to Coast walk.

From our internet search, we found, contours.co.uk, a company that would organize the entire walk. We planned to spoil ourselves. We will not have to race to get a bunk in an Alberque, or for the stores and restaurants to be open at the times suitable to our life style.

We also look forward to visit with two friends we met on past Camino walks, Vinney and George.
