Clay Bank June 9

We left the Park House after another great breakfast and started our climb. Today was to be a roller coaster of inclines. Today's walk took us into the North York Moors National Park. This is our third National Park on the Coast to Coast and the largest expanse of heather in the world. Our walk began in the Arncliffe Woods with a steady uphill climb we passed the route down to Mount Grace Priory. We soon merged with the Cleveland Way. This was a route established before Wainwright's Coast to Coast . We continued to go up joining the Lyke Wake Walk, for a short time. Up and down rocky paths built so the walker would not venture into the heather. The rock paths were steep both up and down making travel very slow. Finally, at 1400 feet we got a glimpse of the North Sea. We took a picture of our good friends near the monument at the top. Since there are no villages near Clay Bank our group would be picked up by cars from various B&Bs. We know tomorrow we will join up again at the Lion Inn 9.5 miles further East. We can almost smell the sea at Robin Hoods Bay. It is hard to imagine we are almost finished this the most challenging of all our Walkabouts.
